Things, truly, are getting down to the wire: nearly as many of our tributes are in danger as are safe. One might think it naive for them to hold any trust in one another. Only two can survive Hybrid: Hunger Games. The Game's conclusion grows ever closer. Stay tuned for a sneak peak of our most grueling Eliminator yet, folks!
Today our tributes will be participating in a thrilling battle of wits against their pairmate to determine who progresses... and who meets a grisly end.
Reversi (also known as Othello) is a simple game of strategy, played with black and white stones on an 8x8 board. The gameboard begins with four pieces in the center, like so:
Players then take turns (starting with Black) placing a piece of their own colour, in such a way that there is at least one straight (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) occupied line between the new stone and another stone of the same colour, with one or more contiguous stones of the opposing player's colour between them. In the starting position, Black has the following 4 options indicated by translucent discs:
After placing the disc, Black flips all white stones lying on a straight line between the new stone and any existing black stones. All flipped stones are now black. If Black decides to place a stone in the topmost location, one white stone gets flipped, and the board now looks like this:
Possibilities for the White player would then be:
If they chose the bottom left location, the board would then look like so:
If a player has no valid moves, their turn is skipped and the other player will take another turn instead. Play proceeds until either the board is full or neither player can make any valid moves, at which point the player with the most stones of their colour on the board wins the match.
This will be a best of 3, with the losing player in each pair being eliminated.
1. A mod will privately provide you with a login to eothello.com to use.
2. The website this is hosted on allows for you to take back moves. For this challenge that feature is prohibited. The moves you make are final.
3. We understand that there is no way to prevent slow play, so please be respectful of your opponent's time. It does not take 10+ minutes to make a move, so do not try to time your opponent into being unable to complete the game.
4. Submit a screenshot as proof of completion for each round in your confessional.
5. If you have any concerns while this challenge is going on, please speak to a Mod. For our discords, please reference the announcement post labeled "Gamemakers".
As always, we wish our tributes a Happy Hunger Games, and welcome any questions.
