Just one-third of our tributes remain. As we near the endgame, we will start to see more unexpected hazards appear in the Arena. Many of the tributes are growing weary and wish to hide in familiar places. We've seen enough footage of sleeping in the jungle, don't you think? A flame wall here, and some angry monkeys there, could add some needed excitement! Soon we will find out what traps our esteemed Gamemaker has set.
The Gamemaker has chosen to deploy...Tracker jackers. Very awake tracker jackers, near multiple water sources. How harrowing. If a tribute is lucky enough to survive the stings, the hallucinations may make them wish they hadn't. In the coming days, we will see which Districts can manage this new threat. Some will become completely disoriented and left vulnerable to their enemies and the elements. Others will have outmaneuvered these foul wasps, but still need to guide their District partner through their return to sanity. This will be a tremendous challenge.
Rules Overview1. Each pair will need to designate a
Spotter and a
Navigator. Pairs may communicate with their partner about strategy, as well as use outside resources, prior to starting the challenge.
2. Teams will have 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. The Spotter will be placed in five total Google Maps street view locations via a provided Geoguessr.com link. These locations will be provided one at a time, and the Spotter will need to attempt to pinpoint where in the world they were
originally placed each time.
4. The Spotter may not use any outside resources during the challenge. The Spotter may only communicate with their partner through words/text. The spotter absolutely may NOT show screenshots of the Geoguessr maps.
5. The Navigator will not see the maps. In order to assist the Spotter, the Navigator can use outside resources and may discuss them, or even post images or screenshots of websites during the challenge.
6. The team with the highest score in points (calculated by the website based on accuracy) will win the challenge.
7. If there is a tie, it will be broken in favor of the District that completed the challenge the quickest.
8. If a District would like to use Chatzy for this challenge, they should coordinate with the mods in order to receive a Chatzy link shortly before their start time.
9. The deadline for this challenge will be 6PM PDT on March 25th. As always, inform a moderator of your questions or if an extension will be needed.
Spotter1. The tribute with the spotter role will be provided with login info for geoguessr.com, as well as a Google form link.
2. The spotter will start their District's time and receive the link to the maps for this challenge by submitting the Google form.
The initial screen you are linked to should look like this. Leave the Time settings alone and click "Start Game!"
3. The spotter will be shown a particular starting street view location. The website allows for movement through street view and changes in zoom. Again, if one does move, keep in mind the goal is to guess where you were placed at the start of the round, not where you are currently viewing. Here is an example:
(1) This is the compass. It can be clicked and dragged to change how you are facing.
(2) Click to enter fullscreen
(3) Click the flag button to return to the starting location
(4) Zoom in with +. Zoom out with -.
(5) This is where my cursor is; if I were to click, it would move me in the direction the arrow is pointing toward
(6) One can also move by clicking either of these two arrows depending on the desired direction
(7) This section tells you your score so far and which location you're working on
(8) This is the world map where your location guesses are made; it can be interacted with by mousing over it
4. The spotter needs to click the location on the world map that they believe the street view map location is at. The world map is found in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Here is an example:
There are 3 icons in the top left area with the dark background. The diagonal upward arrow increases how much space the world map takes up on the screen. The diagonal downward arrow does the opposite. The pin icon toggles whether the size of the map will hold if you move your cursor away from the world map; if untoggled, it will minimize and appear as in the previous spoilered image. Beneath the leftmost arrow are the plus and minus icons, which will increase and decrease the zoom on the world map. The face icon in the Indian Ocean is indicating where the player has selected; if they next click Guess, it would lock in that selection as their official guess. If the Guess button has a grey background, that indicates no location has been selected yet. It is possible to click and drag to see different areas of the world map.
5. Once the spotter submits a guess for the location, they will be shown their score for the round. They should move onto the next location by selecting "Play next round" until all locations have been guessed. An example screen is shown below:
5. Within 80 minutes, the Spotter must submit a screenshot in their confessional of their final score. The ending screen should look something like this. You will not be required to have a tab open to this game in your screenshot for this challenge. While there is a "Play this same map again button," it will not be needed - your first attempt is final.
Navigator1. The navigator's role in this challenge is to assist their teammate in narrowing down the 5 locations.
2. Again, it is allowed for the navigator to use outside sources (including Google Maps). It is OK for the navigator to link images or screenshots of outside sources to the spotter.
3. Keep in mind it is NOT OK for the spotter to access direct links to anything other than an image - so don't link them to a regular web page.
