So I haven't read all confessionals but I've read some and had some time to think about the game and my play in it. So I'm gonna start off with the last round and move to mistakes. Honestly, I think all of the issues with last round came from mistakes from previous round. Like the moment 4 won the challenge we were in a pretty bad spot because they we are group that we weren't super solid with and also had a bunch of other allies. There was a good chance we'd go in since at the very least I was not very good at talking to Gilly or Kirby (especially Kirby), and while we weren't intially the target, us becoming the target seemed to not be a result of our action as 4 was completely unaware we were targeting 9. I also don't apologize for targeting 9, even knowing 7 was also alligned with 4 and were also a team we could probably beat in the eliminator, we could count on them at least trying to work with us post the vote, the coverse is not true for 9. Also, my fate was pretty much sealed the moment the elimination challenge was announced and we weren't allowed to strategize about it. It basically meant that your relationship with the other Districts in the eliminator were key, and well, while River and I were great with 10, we were not great with 9, and River definitely was better with Beetlejuice and Ulysses than me, so I was gonna get hunted, and well, that wasn't going to ever give me a chance to live without using my strategy and getting whiffed on. Also like I had no reason to suspect that eliminator would be something like that, all the previous ones (even the bloodbath) were just individual tasks. So basically all the faults that led to me dying that round were a result of larger issues, not any misplays during that round.
Overall I think my by and large mistakes come from not playing as brazenly and not trying to connect much with the members of District 4 and 9 from the start. Like those relationships were key in us going into the eliminator and dying in the eliminator. I also didn't make any hard alliances, which I think if we had just been like "yo 3, 4 and us have been talking" instead of trying to go for Gilly's "secret" alliance then it would have probably led to 4 going into the eliminator a lot earlier as it would have been clear they were trying to have secret relations. Also just, I tried to play this game like someone who plays an UTR game, issue being I was partnered with someone who was always gonna shine bright and I should have adapted that into "playing from the top", because I wasn't going to not want to be with River under any circumstances. Also despite trying to ally the bottom a lot, it didn't quite work out (probably because I didn't bust up the Gilly alliance early) as they just kept going in and we never had power. The worst part is, there is a world where we are immune round 1 and maybe round 3 since our strategies were great for both of the drawing challenges, and if that happens then we likely are able to do a lot cooler things, but we didn't get those wins, 3 did, and so everything was wated since they were relatively safe (and as much villany as they be, they kind of deserve to win the game based on how they've played so far).
Anyway, those are thoughts of my game and now I turn to my idea of the format. So a lot of power in the game was handed to whoever won the challenge, which definitely undercut the role of social game, but no more than it does in big brother, just means you have to be good with pretty much everyone instead of a majority. Obviously not good for our game and would have been better (for me) if instead of having heads of household it was just the worst performer goes in and a vote, but not sure if that's a change that should have been made. I do think there were two things that led to the game to be as static as it was. The first was well, there was nothing preventing you from just, revolving dooring a pair that was clearly just picked and voted into the eliminator. Like this game would have been very different if some sort of immunity was given to the team that just came out of the eliminator since then you get a benefit outside of just survival. However that definitely is not good if you have heads of household (but we already know I'm not a fan of that mechanic). Second Having teams always be the same outside of the pair that's on the bottom, meant the game was likely to be monolithic until you got far in (like around right now) instead of dynamic. If instead partners changed for everybody each round or even every other round, it certainly would have been more interesting and likely led to people like Kirby being targeted when separated from their partner. Granted that does make it more of an individual game than a pairs game, but it would have been interesting to see. Lastly TWO BLOODBATHS BACK TO BACK, really? Like I get having two of them, but having the same twist back to back is sort of...lame. Would have been better to move one to the second round or something and so there's a space between them since that preserves the novelty.
Anyway I'm probably gonna make a thread to try out the eliminators at some point because I'm curious how I would have handled them (especially since I'd love to see how I'd do in any other eliminator, though I suppose to get a good idea of that I need to make River do them as well).
