The Reaping: First Blood
Well well well how disappointing. It looks like some of your were not up to snuff, and the Games haven't even started yet. While this will be the end for two of you, the other two will have a chance at redemption. This is, after all, my triumphant return after a disappointing year, and I will not tolerate anyone but the best competitors. However you're not actually in my Arena yet, so I'm not sharing those challenges. Instead R&D has found a charming game and was able to lift inspiration from it. This isn't relevant to you, but the crossover promotion is helping fund our third act twist.
Anyway this challenge is partially a puzzle, and partially about your reading comprehension. I would recommend that you read the following very carefully, and maybe take notes. But honestly it's your funeral, so pay as much or as little attention as you would like. If you begin the challenge and do anything wrong, that will count against your final score.
You are about to attempt a tile maze.
The maze is a tile grid on which you may only move orthogonally, that is left, right, up, or down. You may not move diagonally as that would just be absurd. You may notice that each tile is a different color, which is a very shrewd perception. Each color has a different associated property:
Red tiles are also known as "walls." You cannot move through them.
Yellow tiles are electrified. Did you know that electrocution is a portmanteau of 'electric' and 'execution'? These tiles will kill you if they are adjacent to a Blue tile is my point, so don't step on those. If they aren't next to Blue , you'll just get a little shock, but it won't kill you.
Green tiles are alarmed. If you step on it, a Peacekeeper will be dispatched to the location. You will have time to move to another location, but if you step on the same Green tile a second time, the Peacekeeper is authorized to execute.
Orange tiles are a special tribute to our glorious President Snow, and will make you smell like the roses he always wears.
Purple tiles are coated in a special cleaning solution and will cause you to slide in the same direction until you collide with a Red tile, land on a non-Purple tile, or die. Additionally you will smell of extremely toxic chemicals.
Scents overwrite each other, so your scent is based on the tile you most recently stepped on.
Blue tiles are a bit complicated. They are pools of water filled with ravenous piranhas. These are fish of culture, and out of respect for our glorious President Snow, they will eat you if you smell like roses. If you smell like toxic chemicals, they will leave you alone. Additionally because of the nature of electricity, if a Blue tile is orthogonally adjacent to a Yellow tile, it will also be electrified and electrocute you. This only applies to Blue tiles directly adjacent to Yellow tiles.
Pink tiles are extremely in fashion, but otherwise have no special properties.
You will begin the maze in the designated Dark Green spot on the far left, and rose-scented.
To reiterate:
Red = Impassible
Yellow = Electrified, but only die if adjacent to a blue square.
Green = Alarmed
Orange = Makes you rose-scented
Purple = Slippery and makes you smell of toxic chemicals
Blue = Highly-cultured piranhas that will eat you if you are rose-scented, and which transmit electricity if adjacent to a Yellow tile
Pink = Nothing
When you are ready to start, contact a Moderator and we will arrange a time to post the maze in your confessional. To complete the challenge, use an image editor to draw a line showing your exact route. If you give the correct solution, the Moderator will record your time. If your solution is not correct, the Moderator will tell you the first point where you went wrong. Each incorrect submission will incur a 10 minute time penalty, minus the time it took for the Moderator to check your answer and communicate your error.
The fastest two players (one from each pair as stated in general rules) will continue, and we will ready the cannons for the other two. May the odds be ever in your favor.
